who we are
collective collection
-
a community of art enthusiasts coming together to collect curated art, grow cultural capital, and access inclusive collector experiences.
Canvas Capital is interested in how collective art purchases can make art collection more accessible for people with varying affordability. Appealing to art enthusiasts who are interested in art but cannot afford to participate in meaningful ways is an important step towards promoting a broader participation in this elite asset class. The platform places people in financial and cultural community with others who share similar affordability and curiosity for art. Our art collection societiés offer an attractive entry point into the art market by facilitating community through arts education, art social gatherings and most importantly, communal savings and artwork purchases. We want to provide people with the confidence to participate in the local art market by offering collective investment options in art buying.
It serves both collectors and artists by making art collection more affordable and therefore expanding the art collection market base.
what we do
why we do it
Canvas Capital connects art enthusiasts and facilitates art collection stokvels amoung them to lower the financial and cultural barriers to entry in the traditionally exclusive art world. Through this platform, members rotationally receive artworks and the stokvel is able to commit to purchasing artworks on a monthly basis, while having access to a number of collector's benefits.
South Africa’s art market is dominated by a limited pool of high net worth individuals. We are committed to increasing the collector base in the art market, making art collection more accessible for art lovers across affordabilities.
We want to facilitate a consistent inflow of art collectors and monthly art purchases to make it easier for collectors to get the work they love, while creating more revenue opportunities for artists.
Meet The Team
As an artist myself, I am sensitively aware of the challenges, opportunities and critiques in my industry, and especially how we can improve. Access - whether it be educational or financial - remains a hurdle for both young artists and aspiring collectors. Art has historically been handled as an elite asset class and this approach continues to fail our industry. This exclusivity makes it difficult for the arts to thrive, especially in a country of limited resources. We need to explore more affordable and inclusive models of art collection. Our collective collection model aspires to make art collection more welcoming and accessible to people of all cultures, and most of all, economic backgrounds.
Canvas Capital is committed to making art collection more accessible to everyone who shares a passion for art, and an interest in acquiring it. We want to make it easier for you to get the work you love!
